A method of path computation element (PCE) discovery involves acquiring path computation capability information of every PCE in the networks by label switching router (LSR) in the networks when path computation is requested, and then discovering PCE based on the acquired capability information. Thereby only LSR which has path computation request, viz. path computation client (PCC), does PCE discovery, avoiding PCE discovery executed by LSRs which have no path computation request, decreasing network flow and improving efficiency of PCE discovery.
